The Child Development Center (CDC): This is a full-time, licensed child care program. We provide affordable childcare and pre-school curriculum. We also provide before and after care for school age children and maintain a bus that picks up and delivers children from 5 area elementary schools.
Fish Fries: We have operated a Fish Fry for decades. The Fish Fry is open from the first week of Lent through the week before Labor Day. The majority of people who attend the Fish Fry are non-members who live in the community surrounding Zion.
Congregations in Service (CIS): Zion has joined together with other ELCA congregations in the North County and North St. Louis City area to form a group called Congregations in Service (or CIS). We have participated together for God’s Work. Our Hands. since 2015 with all the congregations working on projects together. We have also had 2 joint Service Saturdays in April 2016 & 2017. In July 2017, we worked together to host a mobile food pack for Feed My Starving Children where we raised over $24,000 and packed 107,568 meals. The pack consisted of 563 volunteers from the ELCA congregations but also from the community at wide and other congregations and denominations.
Vacation Bible School (VBS): We have conducted a Vacation Bible School for many years for one week during the summer in the evenings. VBS has been a great way to support the children in our CDC but also reach out to the neighborhood to help educated and energize children about christianity.
Walking Together: We have been very involved in helping a homeless family in our congregation. Zion partnered with Humanitri, a charitable organization that helps families find homes and jobs, as well as offers the training and counseling needed to help the family achieve their goals. The congregation of Zion has had many volunteer their time and talents (i.e. tutoring and guidance for obtaining a GED).
